Enrich your summer with Mater Dei Prep’s exceptional Enrichment Programs and Athletic Camp offerings.

Mater Dei Prep is located on 60 beautiful acres in Middletown, NJ and provides a safe, secure and technologically-advanced learning environment for students. The impressive football field and state-of-the-art track, baseball, softball and soccer fields, and basketball gymnasium provides students the opportunity to be active in one location. The school also offers a dance studio, piano lab and a new Writing and Math Lab to support their students.
 
Our Summer Enrichment Programs are open to the entire community and have classes available for middle school to adults. These offerings give students the opportunity to further develop their talents and pursue their own interests and dreams. Individuality is encouraged and supported by an engaged staff in a fun and safe environment.

Mater Dei Prep Athletic Summer Camps provide the opportunity for athletes of all ages to develop their skills in a fun, sportsman like environment. Our goal is to offer athletic camps that challenge athletes and promote individual improvement that will lead to success. All of our coaches are passionate about creating an experience that will make your child better and promote a deeper love of their sport.

  • Sandlot Summer Baseball & Softball Camp

  • Champion Football Camp

    • Morning practice will be filmed for an afternoon film review run by the college & NFL coaches.

  • Mater Dei Prep Soccer Academy

    • Dates: July 8-12 and July 22-25
    • Time: 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
    • Location: Mater Dei Prep Campus
    • Grades: Boys and Girls ages 5-15

    Coaching provided by the Mater Dei Prep soccer staff along with Director of Soccer Operations Nickie Malanda.

    Players can fine-tune their basic skills of soccer with this week long camp. Each day the curriculum will consist of one of the following: passing and receiving, foot skills and shooting. Players will be instructed on proper technique in order to develop the skills needed to be a successful soccer player. This camp is sure to build the confidence within your son or daughter, whether they are a true beginner or looking to take the next step in the game of soccer.

  • American Sign Language 1 Class

    American Sign Language 1 places an emphasis on American Sign Language and Deaf Culture.  Students will explore and develop an understanding of deaf culture.  Students will learn to sign the alphabet, develop a sign language vocabulary, and use the proper classifiers. This course covers the proper way to make a variety of sign vocabulary, based on categories such as food signs.  Facial expression, body language, and proper hand shapes are modeled and explained as well as practiced.  The students will develop an understanding and appreciation of the history, development and role of ASL in the deaf, as well as, the hearing community.

  • Emergency Medical Response

    Emergency Medical Response is a dynamic course featuring lecture, video, simulated emergency situations, discussion and hands-on skill practice based on national EMS curriculum requirements and educational standards. This program will educate you on airway management, bleeding control and, medical and trauma patient assessment and enable you to recognize and treat life threats.

He continues to be the lead EMT instructor at Monmouth Medical Center EMT Academy for the past 25 years. He has been a major contributor to the Allenhurst fire department through holding multiple line officer’s positions on the fire side spanning 35 years and being EMS captain for 25 years. Mrs. Caldera entered the Little Silver volunteer fire and emergency medical services profession in 2012 as Fire police and an Emergency Medical Responder. She has since become an active member serving currently as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Chief Engineer, Second Lieutenant and Vice-President.

  • Lead and Achieve Peer Leadership Academy

    An Academy where your child will be empowered to find their voice, resolve peer issues, stand up for themselves and those who stand alone.

    The purpose is to establish a community of young leaders that will reduce conflict and promote harmony. Our children today are faced with many challenges in the home, school and community. This workshop will demonstrate the effectiveness of leadership and conflict resolution. The students will learn how to respond to conflict in a constructive and functional manner. The students will find their voice, use their skills to resolve their differences and discover how to stand up for those who stand-alone.  Team building, peer to peer teaching, creating a caring community and reflective initiatives will be the dominant themes of the day.

  • Rock and Roll History

    This course will profile prominent musical movements, individuals, and bands from the days of Elvis through modern day. Students will be relating the music to the popular culture in the United States during the time period and how it reflects the attitude of the youth. Students should have knowledge of the history of the United Sates from 1950 forward so completing courses in US History is preferred.

  • Moneyball: The Statistics of Sports

    Analytics is an ever growing part of sports scouting. In this course, students will be learning basic and advanced metrics used in basketball, baseball, and football. This will be based on the guidelines from a similar course at the University of Houston, adapted for high schoolers. Students taking this course should be proficient at graphing, ratios, proportions, and multi-step equations.

  • Research Paper 101

    Research Paper 101 will take students through the entire process from start to finish of writing a research paper. This class is a great opportunity for students at any age of their high school career. Students will get to learn and write about a topic that interests them while receiving personalized attention based on their individual abilities. Topics covered will range from how to find good research sources, annotating and taking notes, outlining and prewriting, drafting, MLA formatting, and revising and editing. Students will walk away with a completed research paper, more confidence in their abilities, and improved writing skills.

  • Summer Book Club

    In Summer Book Club, students will get a chance to read an enjoyable, contemporary work of literature that they might not have been exposed to in their English classes. Students will practice key reading skills in a fun book club setting while improving their abilities without the pressure of a classroom. Topics will include critical thinking questions, analyzing character development, and engaging in deep thoughtful conversations. Students will dedicate time to reading for pleasure; a pastime with countless benefits that is fading from the young students’ daily lives.

  • Introduction to Robotics

    Campers will be paired up and given a VexIQ Robotics kit. They will be introduced to the exciting and competitive world of STEM with an emphasis on Robotics. Robotic kits will be used to guide your teen from simple machines through to a competitive robot of their own design. Throughout the weeks campers will have the opportunity to choose custom parts from thingiverse.com and watch as their parts come to life using one of three Makerbot Rreplicator’s in Our Maker Space.

    Modern STEM careers are built upon teamwork and leadership while working toward a common goal. Universities and employers seek out those that develop these skills early. This camp is the first step of their development in a safe, free, environment where every failed experiment is another step closer to success.

    • Mr. Brown is a science teacher and robotics mentor since 2003. He has taught in both public and exclusive private New York City Schools. He has created several awards winning FIRST FRC Teams that competed on the local and international level. His teams have been featured on Discovery Channel Science, CNN, CBS, and New York 1. His students have gone on to exciting STEM careers after earning degrees from our nation’s top engineering & technology universities. Including MIT, Stevens Institute and WPI. He is hosting this course for 10 days at Mater Dei Prep and is excited to introduce a new generation to the world of robotics, basic programming and rapid prototyping.

  • Express Yourself with Paint

    Explore the medium of your choice - oil, acrylics, water color or pastels with instruction in landscapes, portraits, still life, abstraction and more. This class welcomes beginner and intermediate painters. In this class you will have the opportunity to learn tips from a professional artist/instructor while sharing your ideas and passion with fellow art students.

    Learn to make the most of your smartphone or camera to take your pictures from snapshots to art! This course will provide students with tips and tricks for manipulating your camera settings, composition, and editing. Field trips will be taken to local sites to provide inspiration.

  • LimitLess Dance

    The dance enrichment program at Mater Dei Prep will open an outlet of creative and educational learning of dance. This program will include technique classes in various genres of dance, choreography classes and a performance showcase. Furthermore, dancers will have an opportunity to create and choreograph on their peers, in addition to enhancing their dance training. The Mater Dei Prep dance enrichment program affords dancers the experience to grow and nurture their techniques within a pre-professional environment.

    Instructor: Cara France
    • Cara France is the Director of Dance at Mater Dei Prep. A New Jersey native, Cara’s love of dance began at a very young age, extending into her high school years at Red Bank Regional High School as a dance major in the Visual and Performing Arts Department. Immersed in technique and choreography classes led by fellow students and renowned guest artists, Cara honed her passion of dance and performance. She continued her dance training at The University of the Arts, studying under modern dance greats Kim Bears-Bailey, Curt Haworth, Silvana Cardell, Zane Booker and Brian Sanders. Following graduation, Cara began her professional dance career, performing in multiple venues including the Walt Disney World parks, Disney Cruise Line, Food Network, The Yow Dance Company and Michael Susten and Company. Currently, Cara teaches and choreographs for local studios and dance teams, winning prestigious awards and recognitions.

  • Beginner Guitar

    This course is an introduction to playing the guitar. Students will learn basic strumming and picking as well as basic chords and rhythms.

    • Mr. Bender is a trumpeter/arranger/composer whose professional experience includes teaching all grade levels and performing in classical, pop-rock, and jazz venues including touring experience on the North American and European continents. His students have successfully competed in All-Shore, Region II and All-State bands (including one student who received an Emmy for writing the music to Mad, Mad, Mad TV). Mr. Bender’s most recent success was placing a student in the New Jersey All-State Jazz band on Trumpet. Mr. Bender is a summa cum laude graduate of Rowan University.
      Mr. Bender maintains an active instrumental teaching studio with his wife, Janet, also a music teacher. Both teach and perform widely in the Tri-State area. They are the parents of four boys, two of whom have attended Mater Dei Prep.

  • Instrumental Lessons

    This intermediate instrumental instruction program provides lessons on any brass, woodwind, percussion, or string instrument. Course will pair different instruments together in a supervised rehearsal setting.

    • Dates: Tuesday and Thursday from June 24 - July 19

    • Location: Mater Dei Prep

    • Ages: Open to all students in grades 7-9
    • Materials Needed: Student will provide own instrument (trumpet, trombone, clarinet, alto sax, tenor sax, flute). Drummers need only sticks (size 9a) and practice pads.
    • Lessons will be paired by instruments in a supervised rehersal setting
    • Prerequisite: Intermediate level course intended for students already playing who wish to improve playing ability in preparation for all-shore competition, Region II and All-state.

    Summer Choir Camp will teach the basics of singing. This camp will emphasize proper breathing techniques and basics of good, healthy singing. Children will learn how to sing as part of a group, enjoy playing games, and learning new songs. They will perform together for their parents on a Saturday afternoon following the program.

    Instructor: Bryan Scotton
    • Mr. Scotton has a degree in Choral Music Education and has worked extensively with the Kodaly method of teaching music for children. This method emphasizes learning how to sing before learning how to read music and there is a strong push towards learning songs with games and having fun while singing!

  • High School Choir Camp

    This Summer Choir Camp will teach the basics of singing. The camp will emphasize on proper breathing techniques and basics of good, healthy, singing. High School students would learn how to sing as part of a group, proper blending and choral technique, and will have an opportunity for individualized instruction. Students will perform pieces that they learned at an afternoon concert on the Saturday following the program.

    • Mr. Scotton has a degree in Choral Music Education and has worked extensively with high school and young adult choirs both secular and sacred. Bryan is currently a religion teacher at Mater Dei Prep.

  • Adult Faith Formation: LIving a Moral Life in a Relativistic World

    Is it possible to live a moral life as Jesus would ask of us in contemporary America? Of course it is, but Jesus never said it would be easy! The course will look into finding time to pray, overcoming the obstacles in society to living a moral life, and much more. Bring your questions and be ready to discuss what we have to look forward to in reaching the Kingdom of God in our world today!
