Mater Dei Prep Hosts “Songs from Les Miserables” Masterclass With Bill Whitefield

On Wednesday, March 28th, the Mater Dei Prep Seraph Players will participate in the “Songs from Les Miserables” Masterclass with Mr. Bill Whitefield. The Masterclass will be held in the Mater Dei Prep chorus room from 12:30 – 2:30 PM. Mr. Whitefield will help the Seraph Players explore their characters and teach them to tell their character’s story through song in preparation for their upcoming performance of Les Miserables on April 13-15 in Memorial Hall.

Mr. Whitefield holds a BA in Theatre from Pepperdine University and is the former Executive Director of the Algonquin Theatre in Manasaquan, NJ. He has an extensive resume in musical theatre and classical voice and has performed in shows in NYC and prestigious theatres such as Papermill Playhouse and Goodspeed Opera House. Mr. Whitefield has also toured the world with the famous Village People, as the construction worker!

The world's longest running musical, Les Miserables is a true modern classic based on Victor Hugo's novel and featuring one of the most memorable scores of all time. Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Miserables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption - a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. The magnificent score includes the classic songs I Dreamed a Dream, On My Own, Stars, Bring Him Home, Do You Hear the People Sing, One Day More, Empty Chairs at Empty Tables, and many more.

The Mater Dei Prep Masterclass Series will continue to bring in professional actors, dancers, and singers to work with the Seraph community and will provide professional and creative feedback that will bring students’ performance skills to the next level. All sessions in the Mater Dei Prep Masterclass Series are free and only require students to register with Mrs. Dwyer, the Head of the Mater Dei Prep Performing Arts Program.
