On Wednesday, May 23, 2018, over fifty Mater Dei Prep alumni enjoyed connecting with their classmates and Seraph colleagues at the first Mater Dei Prep Alumni Professional Networking event at Red Rock Tap + Grill in Red Bank, NJ.
Anticipation and excitement was at an all-time high for the Mater Dei Prep Seraph Players at the 13th Annual Basie Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, May 23, 2018. The Basie Awards is the biggest night for high school theater in Monmouth County and where the Seraph Players would learn if their record breaking performance of Les Miserables would be awarded.
On Tuesday, May 14, 2018, Mater Dei Prep senior and UN NGO/DPI Pathways To Peace representative, Katelyn Grano, was proud to learn that she was selected to become a member of the prestigious Department of Public Information’s NGO Youth Representatives Steering Committee. Katelyn will be one of only 10 members of the prestigious committee that was selected by the Department of Public Information.
The biggest night for high school theater in Monmouth County is the Basie Awards. On Wednesday, May 9, 2018, the Mater Dei Prep Seraph Players were honored to learn that they were nominated for 16 awards at the upcoming 13th Annual Basie Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, May 23, 2018.
Mater Dei Prep was proud to honor the Seraph scholars at the Academic Awards Night Ceremony on Monday, May 7, 2018 in Memorial Hall. It was a beautiful evening to commemorate the students on their academic achievements.
On Thursday, May 3, 2018, Mater Dei Prep continued the tradition of hosting Heavenly Hope Fun Day, a student-run service program for children and young adults with special needs. The project was started in 2012 by Taralynn Vecchio (MDP ’13) and has been run by a Mater Dei Prep student every year since. Heavenly Hope Fun Day gives the participants a break from their regular routine with a whole day of fun games and activities while bonding with fellow Mater Dei Prep students as they give back to the community.
On Sunday, April 15th the Mater Dei Prep Seraph Players completed their final production of Les Miserables in front of a packed house in Memorial Hall on the Mater Dei Prep campus. The final production ended an unforgettable run that included three sell out performances and had the largest number of tickets sold in Mater Dei Prep history.
Congratulations to the 8 Seraphs on announcing they will be continuing their academic and athletic career at the collegiate level today! Great job Seraphs you have made the Mater Dei Prep community very proud.
Following a successful showing at the Monday qualifier, Ryan McCormick '10 strung together rounds of 69-67-72-67 at The Landings Club (Deer Creek), including back-to-back birdies on the final two holes Sunday, en route to a T11 finish.
On Wednesday, March 28th, the Mater Dei Prep Seraph Players will participate in the “Songs from Les Miserables” Masterclass with Mr. Bill Whitefield. The Masterclass will be held in the Mater Dei Prep chorus room from 12:30 – 2:30 PM. Mr. Whitefield will help the Seraph Players explore their characters and teach them to tell their character’s story through song in preparation for their upcoming performance of Les Miserables on April 13-15 in Memorial Hall.
On Thursday, March 15, 2018, Emily Tronolone ‘18 received the Monmouth County Guidance Directors Caring Award. Emily was nominated to represent Mater Dei Prep by School Counselor, Mrs. Kelly King, for showing exceptional caring and compassion for a cause, group, or program during her high school career. The ceremony took place at Brookdale Community College with other recipients from public and private schools throughout Monmouth County.
On Saturday, Feb. 10, Mater Dei Prep held its signature fundraising event, the Seraph Strong Gala, at The Shadowbrook in Shrewsbury. The sold-out event honored Dr. John Checton (MD ’70), Director of Cardiology at Monmouth Medical Center, and Mr. Kevin Cummings, CEO and President of Investors Bancorp, for their commitment to Catholic education and to Mater Dei Prep. The evening included live entertainment by The Trend, a VIP extended cocktail hour, and an expansive tricky-tray and silent auction.
Mater Dei Prep announced the appointment this week of Rob Eriksen as athletic director. Eriksen is the former director of athletics and supervisor of health and physical education for the Old Bridge school district. Lance Bennett will continue as a football coach and assume the role of Coordinator of Student Development.
Mater Dei Prep is pleased to announce the 3rd annual essay competition for its Future Seraph Scholarship. The $1,000.00 scholarship is for those students looking to continue their Catholic high school education at Mater Dei Prep in Middletown, NJ.

On January 27-28, 2018, Mater Dei Prep was proud to continue the school's tradition of service by hosting the 3rd annual Valerie Fund Basketball Challenge. This year the Valerie Fund Basketball Challenge was played on the Mater Dei Prep campus in Memorial Hall. All proceeds from the event supported The Valerie Fund, a nonprofit organization that provides support for the comprehensive health care of children with cancer and blood disorders.
On Saturday, Feb. 10, Mater Dei Prep will hold the Seraph Strong Gala, at Shadowbrook in Shrewsbury. The annual Seraph Strong Gala is Mater Dei Prep’s signature event to honor alumni, community leaders and others who support Mater Dei Prep’s mission. As the largest fundraiser of the year, the gala enables Mater Dei Prep to continue its tradition of excellence in education and commitment to Catholic values. On Tuesday, January 9, 2018, Mater Dei Prep’s recently formed boys’ and girls’ lacrosse programs were honored to receive a $10,000 grant from The Bill Belichick Foundation. Mater Dei Prep was one out of twenty-two schools across the country chosen to receive the generous grant.
