On Friday, November 2, 2018, Yancheng “Cash” Zhang ‘MDP20 and Jacob Callas ‘MDP19, were named finalists for the Algonquin Arts Theater Rising Stars. Yancheng “Cash” Zhang was named a finalist for his opera performance of “Caro Mio Ben” in Italian while Jacob Callas was selected for his piano performance of "Scriabin Prelude Opus 13 Number 1." Yancheng “Cash” Zhang and Jacob Callas are both valued members of the Mater Dei Prep Performing Arts Institute and Seraph Players.

The Don Froude ‘74 and Ed “Skip” McLaughlin ‘74 Science Center construction is scheduled to begin in December 2018. The project will transform the current labs and create highly functional, state-of-the-art learning environments that empower students to succeed. The Science Center will be comprised of cutting edge biology and chemistry labs.

On Tuesday, September 11 Mater Dei Prep continued the convocation ceremony tradition by welcoming over 300 Seraph students back for the upcoming school year. Convocation, the Latin word for “calling together” brought all the Mater Dei Prep students and faculty together as a community to learn about the new exciting academic and extra-curricular options available to them.
Mater Dei Prep was honored to host the dedication ceremony for the Frank Outwater Fieldhouse on Saturday, September 8, 2018. The recently renovated Frank Outwater Fieldhouse will be the new home to the Mater Dei Prep football, boys’ and girls’ track, boys’ and girls’ lacrosse, and baseball team. The entire project budget of $150,000 was completely funded by donations and the in-kind services of those in the Mater Dei Prep community.
On Wednesday, August 22, 2018 the Mater Dei Prep Global Leaders Institute in partnership with Pathways To Peace had the opportunity to present at the 67th UN DPI/NGO Global Summit "We the Peoples: Global Summit for Global Solutions" Conference at the United Nations in New York City. The Mater Dei Prep Global Leaders Institute application was selected to present over hundreds of international submissions.
Mater Dei Prep is proud to announce the appointment of Mr. Dennis Kazimir as the new boys’ head basketball coach. Coach Kazimir comes to Mater Dei Prep with 15 years of coaching and management experience on the collegiate and high school level. Coach Kazimir recently completed four seasons as the assistant coach and interim head coach at United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA).

Mater Dei Prep (MDP) and the Mater Dei Prep Alumni Association are proud to announce this year’s inductees to the Mater Dei Prep Hall of Fame. The Mater Dei Prep Hall of Fame honors members of the Seraph community for their extraordinary co-curricular accomplishments, distinguished achievement in their respective fields, extraordinary service and support of their alma mater, and team state championships. All nominations are reviewed by the Hall of Fame Nominating Committee and final honoree selections are made by the Mater Dei Prep Hall of Fame Committee. The Hall of Fame Class of 2018 will be honored on Friday, September 21, 2018 at the Trump National Golf Club in Colts Neck, New Jersey.

Mater Dei Prep “Mater Dei” is proud to announce it will be adding girls’ volleyball this fall. It is currently culling through resumes for its inaugural head coach. Expressed interest in adding this extra-curricular sport for girls means Mater Dei will have twelve (12) girls sports to choose from.
The Mater Dei Prep Board of Trustees and President Don Galante are pleased to announce the appointment of Debra J. Serafin as principal of the school effective Aug. 1, 2018. The school’s Academic Affairs Committee, led by Dr. Simon Bosco, presented Ms. Serafin to the Board after a thorough search which focused on candidates with strong educational and curricular experience.
On Friday, June 8, 2018, Mater Dei Prep hosted a Dedication Ceremony to commemorate Investors Bank and the Mater Dei Prep PTO for their generous support in renovating the new Math & Technology Center. The new Math & Technology Center was proudly supported through a $25,000 grant from the Investors Foundation and a $30,000 donation from the Mater Dei Prep PTO.
On Tuesday, June 5, the Class of 2018 marked their graduation with a beautiful ceremony at Mary, Mother of God Church in Middletown, New Jersey. One Hundred Nine graduates were honored at this year’s ceremony and as a collective group received over $18.5 million in merit-based scholarships, which averages $169,725 in scholarships per student.
The graduating seniors of Mater Dei Prep celebrated on Thursday, May 31, 2018, with a Baccalaureate Mass in Mary, Mother of God Church, followed by the Senior Dinner at Ocean Place Resort and Spa in Long Branch.

Anticipation and excitement was at an all-time high for the Mater Dei Prep Seraph Players at the 13th Annual Basie Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, May 23, 2018. The Basie Awards is the biggest night for high school theater in Monmouth County and where the Seraph Players would learn if their record breaking performance of Les Miserables would be awarded.
On Tuesday, May 14, 2018, Mater Dei Prep senior and UN NGO/DPI Pathways To Peace representative, Katelyn Grano, was proud to learn that she was selected to become a member of the prestigious Department of Public Information’s NGO Youth Representatives Steering Committee. Katelyn will be one of only 10 members of the prestigious committee that was selected by the Department of Public Information.

Mater Dei Prep was proud to honor the Seraph scholars at the Academic Awards Night Ceremony on Monday, May 7, 2018 in Memorial Hall. It was a beautiful evening to commemorate the students on their academic achievements.
On Thursday, May 3, 2018, Mater Dei Prep continued the tradition of hosting Heavenly Hope Fun Day, a student-run service program for children and young adults with special needs. The project was started in 2012 by Taralynn Vecchio (MDP ’13) and has been run by a Mater Dei Prep student every year since. Heavenly Hope Fun Day gives the participants a break from their regular routine with a whole day of fun games and activities while bonding with fellow Mater Dei Prep students as they give back to the community.
On Sunday, April 15th the Mater Dei Prep Seraph Players completed their final production of Les Miserables in front of a packed house in Memorial Hall on the Mater Dei Prep campus. The final production ended an unforgettable run that included three sell out performances and had the largest number of tickets sold in Mater Dei Prep history.

Following a successful showing at the Monday qualifier, Ryan McCormick '10 strung together rounds of 69-67-72-67 at The Landings Club (Deer Creek), including back-to-back birdies on the final two holes Sunday, en route to a T11 finish.
On Wednesday, March 28th, the Mater Dei Prep Seraph Players will participate in the “Songs from Les Miserables” Masterclass with Mr. Bill Whitefield. The Masterclass will be held in the Mater Dei Prep chorus room from 12:30 – 2:30 PM. Mr. Whitefield will help the Seraph Players explore their characters and teach them to tell their character’s story through song in preparation for their upcoming performance of Les Miserables on April 13-15 in Memorial Hall.
On Thursday, March 15, 2018, Emily Tronolone ‘18 received the Monmouth County Guidance Directors Caring Award. Emily was nominated to represent Mater Dei Prep by School Counselor, Mrs. Kelly King, for showing exceptional caring and compassion for a cause, group, or program during her high school career. The ceremony took place at Brookdale Community College with other recipients from public and private schools throughout Monmouth County.
On Saturday, Feb. 10, Mater Dei Prep held its signature fundraising event, the Seraph Strong Gala, at The Shadowbrook in Shrewsbury. The sold-out event honored Dr. John Checton (MD ’70), Director of Cardiology at Monmouth Medical Center, and Mr. Kevin Cummings, CEO and President of Investors Bancorp, for their commitment to Catholic education and to Mater Dei Prep. The evening included live entertainment by The Trend, a VIP extended cocktail hour, and an expansive tricky-tray and silent auction.
Mater Dei Prep announced the appointment this week of Rob Eriksen as athletic director. Eriksen is the former director of athletics and supervisor of health and physical education for the Old Bridge school district. Lance Bennett will continue as a football coach and assume the role of Coordinator of Student Development.

On January 27-28, 2018, Mater Dei Prep was proud to continue the school's tradition of service by hosting the 3rd annual Valerie Fund Basketball Challenge. This year the Valerie Fund Basketball Challenge was played on the Mater Dei Prep campus in Memorial Hall. All proceeds from the event supported The Valerie Fund, a nonprofit organization that provides support for the comprehensive health care of children with cancer and blood disorders.

On Tuesday, January 9, 2018, Mater Dei Prep’s recently formed boys’ and girls’ lacrosse programs were honored to receive a $10,000 grant from The Bill Belichick Foundation. Mater Dei Prep was one out of twenty-two schools across the country chosen to receive the generous grant.
