Clubs & Activities

Mater Dei Prep offers a wide variety of extracurricular activities to provide opportunities outside of the classroom for our students to interact with each other and with our faculty. These clubs and activities enable our students to pursue personal interests and to share their unique talents with the community. All clubs and activities provide our students with opportunities to develop their leadership qualities and extend their academic and social experiences.

  • Band

    The Band club is open to all student musicians. They perform in a large group or in smaller ensembles, and have the opportunity to perform at cabarets and concerts.
  • Book Club

    Students will meet to discuss chosen books and attend movies as a club if a film adaptation is released, comparing and contrasting the two versions.
  • Catholic Athletics for Christ

    Catholic Athletes for Christ meets biweekly to unite athletes from all sports in prayer, reflection, and acts of Christian service. It is a program connected to all other Catholic high schools in the Diocese of Trenton.
  • Chess Club

    The purpose of this club is to promote the game of Chess. There is a Fall & Spring league. Individual records are kept and posted and trophies are awarded.
  • Civil Air Patrol

    Mater Dei Prep is the only Catholic high school in New Jersey that accommodates a student's interest in participating in the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary, Civil Air Patrol Program. The Civil Air Patrol student at Mater Dei Prep follows the college preparatory curriculum and earns military science credits. You'll find cadet life exciting if you enjoy flying, leadership training, search and rescue, earning rank and awards, obstacle courses, model rocketry, team building, hiking and camping, and exploring aviation careers. 
  • Concert Chorus

    The Chorus performs at school concerts and at Church. All levels are welcome.
  • Craft Club

    Craft Club provides the opportunity to learn new and traditional handicraft skills. Students choose the projects and come together during Flex to work and share ideas.
  • Drama Club

    The drama club is open to all interested students to work on monologues, dialogues, improvs, and one-acts. Performance opportunities and competition in festivals are possible.
  • Environmental Club

    This club provides outdoor experiences and active participation in maintaining healthy ecosystems.
  • Fashion Club

    The purpose of the Fashion Club is to allow students to design their own clothing and accessories. They will also be taught the basics of sewing to eventually be able to make their designs come to life.
  • Go Green Club

    The “Go Green” club focuses on thinking about our life and what we are doing with natural energy sources. They also work to make Mater Dei Prep an environmentally friendly campus.
  • Habitat for Humanity

    Habitat’s mission is to put God’s love into action by bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope. Students 16+ are welcome to participate in local home building and fundraising.
  • History Club

    The club meets to discuss history and watch historical movies, and takes an annual trip to Gettysburg National Military Park to tour the battlefield.
  • Honors Chorus

    This select group of singers, chosen by audition, performs at concerts, on field trips, and competes at choral festivals.
  • Math Club

    Honors math students compete in the New Jersey State Math League & the Catholic High School Math League against other high schools both in Monmouth County and in the State.

  • Mission Club

    The Mission Club promotes awareness of the needs of others in impoverished areas of the world and our Christian duty to ease suffering. The club collects money for the mission reach out program.
  • Model United Nations

    This program is sponsored and run by the local YMCA providing students with hands on experience in international issues and diplomacy.
  • Movie Club

    Students will view films in and out of school for social and cinematographic purposes.
  • National Honor Society (NHS)

    National Honor Society recognizes students in grades 11 and 12 who are in the top of their class academically, are of outstanding character, serve as leaders in the school and community, and perform service throughout the school and local communities.
  • Ping Pong Club

    The Ping-Pong Club meets during Flex Period. All students are invited to participate in daily play or the monthly tournaments. All levels and abilities invited.
  • Quiz Bowl

    The Quiz Bowl team travels to Jeopardy-style tournaments across the state of New Jersey, competing against other high schools. The 2014-15 Quiz Bowl team participated in the National History Bowl in Washington, D.C.
  • Rho Kappa History National Honor Society

    Rho Kappa is a national organization for high school juniors and seniors that recognizes excellence in the field of Social Studies. (Chapters in over 60 countries world-wide)
  • Right to Life

    Right to Life promotes an increased respect for human life. We work with different pro life organizations, and participate in the March for Life walk in Washington DC.
  • Seraph Players

    The award-winning Seraph Players perform in small cabaret style theatre productions and large-scale musicals both on campus and at local community playhouses. Auditions are held for each production throughout the school year.
  • Spanish Club

    The goal of the Spanish club is to enhance and enrich students' understanding and appreciation of the Spanish language and the cultures of Spanish-speaking countries. Food, holidays, games and music are a large part of each meeting. BIENVENIDOS!
  • Spanish Conversation and Games

    This club meets and while using Spanish words, plays popular games such as Scrabble, Apples to Apples, Madlibs while practicing and improving their Spanish conversation skills.
  • Student’s Against Destructive Decisions (SADD)

    Students participate in Red Ribbon Week and the Great American Smoke Out. Donations are collected and given to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association and Breast Cancer Awareness Association. Students also participate and organize the Relay for Life Event in June.
  • Student Advisory Board (SAB)

    The Student Advisory Board (SAB) members are elected from the student body and govern and/or impact all areas of school procedure affecting student life. The SAB is composed of five committee chairpersons (social/homecoming, spiritual/service, environmental, academic and athletic/school spirit). Each class will have a level representative. The Student Advisory Board is responsible for the Homecoming Dance and Half Time Activities, Junior Ring Ceremony, Thanksgiving Food Drive, Christmas Toy Drive, Easter Basket Drive, Winter Dance, Rent-A-Senior Day, Senior Class Trip to Walt Disney World, Senior-Junior Prom, Senior Cruise, Senior Picnic and Senior Dinner.
  • Yoga

    Through the practice of yoga, students will be able to better invite peace, relaxation and even strength and flexibility into their life. Yoga will help students deal with the daily challenges of a busy lifestyle and growing up while gaining a better understanding of their minds and bodies.
