Mater Dei Prep fosters a climate of appreciation for faith and spiritual values and offers its students encouragement and hope in their personal journey of faith. Mater Dei Prep’s spirit of community is strengthened by coming together to celebrate our faith and reliance on God. Students have countless opportunities throughout the school year to nurture their spirituality and to experience the joys and responsibilities of helping others by sharing their talents and time.

  • Prayer Life

    • We begin each day with prayer.

    • We prayerfully follow the liturgy of the Church throughout the school year.
  • Liturgies

    Each week Mater Dei Prep students have the opportunity to celebrate the liturgy in the school Chapel. In addition, campus wide Mass is celebrated the first Friday of each month and on holy days.
  • Ministry

    Mater Dei Prep students perform personal ministry in the following capacities:
    • Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
    • Lectors and Commentators
    • Altar Servers
    • Ministers of Hospitality
    • Music Ministers
  • Sacraments

    The community of Mater Dei Prep shares the Eucharist throughout the school year and is also offered opportunities for Reconciliation during Advent, Lent and anytime the need arises.

    Mater Dei Prep was the first school in the Diocese of Trenton to institute a program modeled after RCIA to provide preparation for students who have not received all of their sacraments of initiation.
  • Retreats

    Each year a day is set aside for every class to explore faith-based themes. These days of recollection are planned and run by students working under the guidance of the Campus Minister.

    For many students, the highlight of their faith formation experience at Mater Dei Prep comes during Kairos, a four day/three night spiritual retreat for students in their senior year. Kairos is a unique faith formation experience where senior students have an intense and extremely personal encounter with God. Guided by a priest and led by their peers, students examine their role in God’s community.
  • Counseling

    The campus minister is available for counseling whenever a student feels the need. He offers perspective and guidance on matters of faith and supports Mater Dei Prep’s students through any challenges in their faith formation journey.

  • Christian Service

    Christian Service is an integral part of the Mater Dei Prep experience. With a course in Christian Service and a Community Service club, service permeates our school culture. The Student Advisory Board runs food, clothing, Christmas toy, and Easter candy drives throughout the year. Campus Ministry assists in coordination of these activities. In addition, Campus Ministry provides opportunities for “hands on” work in soup kitchens, after-care programs, nursing homes and food banks.

  • Mater Dei Prep Continues Heavenly Hope Fun Day Tradition

    On Wednesday, May 10, 2017, Mater Dei Prep continued the tradition of hosting Heavenly Hope Fun Day, a student-run service program for children and young adults with special needs. The project, begun in 2012 by then Mater Dei Prep junior Taralynn Vecchio (MDP ’13), gives the participants a break from their regular routine with a whole day of fun games and activities while bonding with Mater Dei Prep students.

  • Seraph Receives Monmouth County Caring Award

    On Thursday, March 16, 2017, senior Jennifer Quigley received the Monmouth County Guidance Directors’ Caring Award. Jennifer was nominated to represent Mater Dei Prep by Director of Student Services, Mr. Phil Masterson, for showing exceptional caring and compassion for a cause, group, or program during her high school career. The ceremony took place at Brookdale Community College with other recipients from public and private schools throughout Monmouth County.
