2008 Mater Dei Prep State Championship Varsity Softball Team:
In the spring of 2008 Mater Dei Prep fielded a softball team that would make school history. The sixteen girls on the roster were one family on the diamond and nothing would come between them. The season began in a horrible rain storm vs Shore Regional that Mater Dei Prep won 6-5 by scoring five runs in the bottom of the 5th
inning. That was the beginning of the “Magical Season.” The team went on to tie for the Shore Conference B Central Division Title and made it to the Monmouth County Tournament Final.
The State Championship Tournament began with an extra inning 2-1 victory over Holy Cross followed by a 10-0 victory over Cardinal McCarrick to put Mater Dei Prep in the Non-Public B South Championship game against St. Joe’s of Hammonton. After defeating St. Joe’s of Hammonton the Seraphs were crowned Non-Public B South State Champions. The Seraphs then traveled to Trenton in search of their first State Championship and had to play in 100 degree weather. After battling another state powerhouse, Montclair Kimberly Academy, the Seraphs went on to win their first Non-Public B State Title!
