Incoming Freshmen:

Monsignor Bulman Campus Partners Program

As part of our campus community initiative, Mater Dei Prep offers this program to any incoming freshman who graduates from St. Mary School in Middletown, NJ. The Monsignor Bulman Campus Partners Program provides a $1,200.00 reduction from the standard tuition. This program will be applied upon registration at Mater Dei Prep.

Capstone Academy

The Mater Dei Prep Capstone Academy Program is comprised of a select group of top-tier students who meet regularly to expand their interests and skills through challenging and innovative activities and educational opportunities.  Students in the program innovate and implement projects, report on their activities, engage in community service, and attend a travel program abroad. All selected students will receive a $2,500 renewable scholarship.

Students applying for the Capstone Academy must be entering the Class of 2022 and have previously completed their Mater Dei Prep application.  All students are required to have a 93% average to apply. Completed applications must be submitted by November 17.

Future Seraph Scholarship

This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to students looking to continue their Catholic high school education at Mater Dei Prep. Students must complete an online application and submit a 350-500-word essay on one of three given topics relating to leadership, community service and extracurricular activities. The competition is open to all seventh grade students in public and private schools in Monmouth, Ocean and Middlesex counties. 

Up to three Future Seraph scholarships will be awarded to students from the group of applicants.

Application for the Future Seraph Scholarship will go live in January 2018.

Placement Test Scholarship

Two $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to the top performing students on the Mater Dei Prep Placement Test taken on November 18.  Students must complete their Mater Dei Prep application and be registered for the Placement Test by November 17 to be considered for the scholarship.

Undergraduate:

Katie McCarthy Memorial Scholarship

This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a freshman or sophomore student to commemorate the life of Katie McCarthy and ensure her message and way of life is recognized and valued. Katie loved everything about life; she valued God and her family above everything else. She valued every person she met. Katie loved to smile. She loved to laugh. She loved to sing. She loved to talk. Katie appreciated all the little gifts of life. Please submit a short summary of who you are. Tell us about how you share God’s love in the world. Let us know who you really are and how you embody the values of Katie.

The recipient of this scholarship will be selected by the McCarthy Family and a committee of Mater Dei Prep faculty and administrators. The award is granted to the student, with the $1,000 paid to Mater Dei Prep as a credit against the student’s tuition.

The Give Back Scholarship

The $1,000 Mater Dei Prep School Give Back Scholarship was established by the Pipitone family to recognize the Mater Dei Prep community for its outpouring of love and support following Superstorm Sandy. In the days, weeks and months that followed the storm, their belief was confirmed that a Catholic education and, more importantly, belonging to a Catholic community, was the best choice for their family. This scholarship is the Pipitone family’s way of "paying forward" their feelings of gratitude for the emotional and financial support provided to them during the year that followed the life-changing event called "Sandy."

This scholarship is awarded annually to two juniors (one male and one female) at Mater Dei Prep. The following factors will be used when considering students for this award: the student shows good moral character and reputation; the student is in good disciplinary standing; the student works hard and maintains consistent passing grades; and, the student demonstrates a willingness to help others in their school and community. Applicants must submit a paragraph or two explaining why they are grateful to be a part of the Mater Dei Prep community and a teacher recommendation.

The selection process will be conducted by a school committee including one administrator, two faculty members and one Pipitone family member. The award is granted to the student, with the $1,000 paid to Mater Dei Prep as a credit against the student’s tuition.

The Victor Zando Memorial Award and Scholarship

This award is presented to a freshman, sophomore or junior in memory of Victor Zando. Victor attended Catholic elementary and high school and had an incredible respect for his Catholic upbringing. He had a determination and passion that were much larger than his physical stature. Victor valued his family and his friendships above everything else. He was devoted, loyal and loving. Students considered for this scholarship are actively involved in community service, maintain academic excellence, possess a passion and dedication to the sports they play and display a reverence for their Catholic education.

Students are nominated by the Mater Dei Prep Scholarship Committee with the final award selection made by The Victor Zando Foundation. This $3,000 scholarship is granted to the student, but paid to Mater Dei Prep as a credit against the student’s tuition. Award recipient is announced at the Mater Dei Prep Academic Awards Night.

Mater Dei Prep PTO Scholarship

Selected by the Mater Dei Prep Scholarship Committee, this $500 scholarship is awarded to a junior who demonstrates a commitment to self and others and a dedication to Mater Dei Prep. The award recipient will be announced at the Mater Dei Prep Academic Awards.

Make a Difference Scholarship

Mater Dei Prep is pleased to announce the Make a Difference Scholarship. This $500 scholarship has been established by the Griffin family to recognize Mater Dei Prep students for their exemplary dedication to education and the community. This scholarship will be awarded to a junior whose demonstrates their love for Mater Dei Prep through their school spirit, community service and extracurricular activities.
 
The recipient of the scholarship will be announced at the Academic Awards. The scholarship is granted to the student, with the $500 paid to Mater Dei Prep as a credit towards the student’s senior-year tuition.

Seniors:

The Timothy Pauxtis Foundation Scholarship

This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior from Mater Dei Prep, Middletown North High School or Middletown South High School who plans to study nursing in college. To be considered for this award, students must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA; have followed a full college prep course of study, including three years of science and math with a B average in 12th grade; and be accepted into a two- or four-year degree oriented nursing program. Students must submit a letter of recommendation and complete the application which must be submitted by the school’s guidance office. Award recipient is announced at graduation.

The Ellen Cunningham Akmentins Scholarship

The Ellen Cunningham Akmentins Fund was established by her parents as a memorial scholarship program, developed to perpetuate their daughter’s love for the fields of communication and education in a meaningful, living manner. This $10,000 scholarship is awarded annually to students who will be majoring in communications or teaching in college. The student is required to write an essay on “Why I chose communications or teaching as my major.”

Herff Jones Journalism Academic Scholarship

This $350 scholarship is presented to a student who shows dedication to excellence in yearbook journalism, takes a leadership role in commitment to deadlines, follows the latest trends in design layout and photo journalism and contributes to high quality copy writing in creating Mater Dei Prep’s yearbook, Theotokos. This award is chosen by the Mater Dei Prep yearbook advisor. Award recipient is announced at graduation.

Kathee Budzyna Memorial Chorus Scholarship

This $1,000 award is a chorus scholarship presented in memory of Kathee Budzyna to promote skin cancer awareness. The recipient of this award must be a member of the Mater Dei Prep Chorus or other school-sponsored choral group and must exhibit the attributes of kindness, concern for other members of the chorus and have made the greatest contribution to the overall harmony and effectiveness of the chorus. This award is chosen by the chorus director and the Budzyna family. Award recipient is announced at graduation.

Kathee Budzyna Memorial Tennis Scholarship

This $1,000 award is a tennis scholarship presented in memory of Kathee Budzyna to promote skin cancer awareness. The recipient of this award must be a member of the Mater Dei Prep tennis team and must exhibit the attributes of kindness and concern for other members of the team. This award is chosen by the tennis coach and the Budzyna family. Award recipient is announced at the Mater Dei Prep Letterman Awards Night.

The Grace Azzolina Scaduto Memorial Scholarship

This $1,000 scholarship is presented to a female senior in memory of Grace’s dedication to her family, philanthropic advocacy, community service and her ongoing courage as a breast cancer victim. Student must be an active member in activities such as student body government, future business leaders of America and/or any type of charitable work. Student must also exhibit the attributes of leadership, kindness, civic mindedness, and respect for fellow peers. Student must also demonstrate community service and a desire to further their education upon graduation. Special consideration will be given to any student who has demonstrated perseverance and courage in the face of adversity or extraordinary personal circumstances.
 
Scholarship recipient will be chosen by the Mater Dei Prep selection committee. Please email scholarships@materdeiprep.org if you meet the scholarship criteria and would like to be considered for this award. Recipient is announced at graduation.

The John A. Anderson Scholarship

Selected by the Mater Dei Prep Scholarship Committee, this $500 award is given in memory of Charles and Anthony Anderson by Mr. John A. Anderson, former assistant principal at Mater Dei Prep. This award is given to a senior who exemplifies the love for Mater Dei Prep, love for fellow students, cooperation with the Mater Dei Prep administration and someone who can be counted on in a time of need. $250 will be added to the award if the student is the child of a St. Mary School graduate. $250 will also be added to the award if the student is a child of a Mater Dei Prep graduate. Award recipient is announced at graduation.

CPL KEVIN J. REINHARD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship seeks to immortalize the life and accomplishments of Cpl. Kevin J. Reinhard, a 2005 graduate of Saint Joseph’s High School in Metuchen. Kevin attended college and then enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2008. Before his term of service was complete, Kevin was killed in a helicopter crash on January 19, 2012. Kevin’s commitment to Saint Joseph’s and its mission helped his family realize the best way to honor Kevin’s memory and celebrate his life was to create a scholarship in his name. Begun in 2012 at Saint Joseph’s, those who have made the scholarship possible are now extending it to Mater Dei Prep as they feel our students embody the characteristics that made Kevin so special.

The recipient of this scholarship is expected to exemplify the outstanding characteristics of academic achievement, participation in school activities, service to other and leadership through good character and example.

Applicant must submit a 500-word essay describing how the education you received at Mater Dei Prep will help you achieve your education goals in college and beyond. Please include three (3) traits which you possess and have developed while at Mater Dei Prep and how you will continue to build upon them in the future. Applicant must also provide evidence of past community service. Students applying for this scholarship must have a 3.0 GPA.
