Mater Dei Prep Teammates Sign With Boston College On National Signing Day

On Wednesday, December 19th, Mater Dei Prep seniors Izaiah Henderson and Shitta Sillah proudly signed their National Letter of Intent to continue their academic and football careers at Boston College on a full scholarship.

Izaiah Henderson and Shitta Sillah are both valuable members of the Mater Dei Prep football team and have been instrumental in leading the Seraphs to three consecutive state championship games. Izaiah and Shitta were both selected 1st Team All-Division and 1st Team All-Shore for their amazing 2018 season. In addition, Izaiah was named Division Player of the Year and selected 1st Team All-State Defense and Shitta was selected 2nd Team All-State Defense.

“The goal of our football program is to develop physique, intellect, and most importantly character in all of our players. Boston College is one of the schools that will continue to ensure that our boys go beyond playing football and become productive, kind, honest and hardworking citizens,” said Dino Mangiero, Mater Dei Prep head football coach.

“Izaiah and Shitta are very humble and driven young men who have excelled academically and athletically. They understand the importance of this decision and how it will impact not only the next four years but the next 40 years of their lives. Boston College is one of the few institutions that offer a high level of football and academics and they both have been well prepared to succeed in the classroom and on the field. I trust and believe that they will both excel at Boston College,” said Lance Bennett, Mater Dei Prep assistant head football coach.

Izaiah and Shitta have followed the same college preparatory path that all Mater Dei Prep students follow. From the moment a student enrolls in Mater Dei Prep, an individualized learning plan is developed to ensure they have the tools needed to meet and exceed their goals. Designed to challenge the individual, the Mater Dei Prep curriculum encourages students to take risks and explore areas of true interest as they prepare for post-secondary education.

“Boston College is a premier University and I cannot think of two young men who deserve this opportunity more. I am positive they will continue the hard work it takes to be successful and we thank the coaches and faculty members who helped make this possible. We are so proud of our Seraphs,” said Don Galante, president of Mater Dei Prep.

It was a proud moment as Izaiah and Shitta signed their National Letter of Intent and all in attendance could feel the excitement in the room.

“This is such a surreal moment and I feel extremely blessed. I always dreamed about this day since the first time I put on football pads at the age of 7. I look forward to growing as a student-athlete and know Boston College will help me achieve my dreams on the football field and in the classroom. I would like to thank all my family, coaches, teachers, and teammates for pushing me to work hard in the classroom and on the playing field. Go Eagles,” said Shitta Sillah.

“I am excited to start the next chapter of my life at Boston College. I never thought this day would come and feel so blessed to see all the hard work and dedication pay off. Boston College is a premier University that will help me achieve my goals of receiving a degree in business and playing in the NFL. Mater Dei Prep sets the bar high for both academic and athletic standards and I truly appreciate the foundation the school has given me. I would not be where I am today without the guidance and support of my loving family, Mater Dei Prep, my teachers, and all my amazing coaches. I cannot wait to get to Boston College and put in that hard work,” said Izaiah Henderson.
