Mater Dei Prep Inducts 46 Members Into Academic Honor Societies

On Wednesday, November 21, 2018, Mater Dei Prep was proud to induct sixteen members into the National Honor Society (NHS) and thirty members into the Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society (RKHS). The ceremony took place after the Thanksgiving prayer service at Mary, Mother of God Church in Middletown, New Jersey.

Mr. Don Galante, Mater Dei Prep President, welcomed parents and friends to the prayer service and offered congratulatory words to the Seraphs. “This is a very special day for all the inductees. You all worked extremely hard to get here and you should be proud of this amazing accomplishment. Your willingness to excel in the classroom and give back to the community is the true symbol of our Seraph spirit.”

After the candlelight ceremony all the National Honor Society and Rho Kappa Honor Society inductees were awarded their certificates of recognition by Mrs. Laura Mandile, NHS Moderator, Ms. Lauren Mae Henry, NHS Moderator, and Mr. Dominic Longo, RKHS Moderator.

The National Honor Society serves to recognize students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership and character. Members of the National Honor Society are expected to uphold these standards of excellence, and serve as role models for other students. Induction to Mater Dei Prep’s chapter of National Honor Society requires a minimum 4.0 GPA, minimum of 125 hours of community service for juniors and minimum 150 hours of community service for seniors, demonstrated school leadership, a satisfactory discipline record, and participation in multiple extracurricular activities.

This year Mater Dei Prep was honored to induct Ariana Atkinson ’19, Robert Cassin ’19, Noelle DeBiase ’20, Madison Ducsai ’20, Sean Egan ’20, Peter Gorman ’20, Melissa Kelly ’20, Patrick Mastro ’20, Perry Merse ’19, Christopher Napoli ’20 (representing Character), Karen Nortz ’20 (representing Service), Gillian Rispoli ’20, Elizabeth Sheridan ’20 (representing Scholarship), Jeremy Weinstein ’19, Shane Xiao ’19, and Katherine Zoda ’20 (representing Leadership) into the National Honor Society.

The Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society is the national organization that serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the field of social studies. Induction to Mater Dei Prep’s chapter requires students to have completed four semesters of social studies courses with the intent of completing six semesters by graduation. All students are also required to have a cumulative 3.5 GPA.
