Mater Dei Prep Dedicates New Fieldhouse to Frank Outwater
Mater Dei Prep was honored to host the dedication ceremony for the Frank Outwater Fieldhouse on Saturday, September 8, 2018. The recently renovated Frank Outwater Fieldhouse will be the new home to the Mater Dei Prep football, boys’ and girls’ track, boys’ and girls’ lacrosse, and baseball team. The entire project budget of $150,000 was completely funded by donations and the in-kind services of those in the Mater Dei Prep community.
During his 25 years of service to Mater Dei Prep, Frank Outwater served as a math and history teacher, athletic director and vice principal. As much as he was devoted to education, it was the students who were always his main concern. He cared about their lives off the field and out of the classroom and took the time to get to know his students. To many Mater Dei Prep alumni, Frank served as a father figure and loyal friend that always encouraged them to reach beyond their potential. Frank’s focus was always on the students and he was one of the biggest supporters of the original Monsignor Bulman Stadium when it was built.
The Frank Outwater Fieldhouse Renovation Project was made possible through the generous lead gifts from the Jordan Family Sports Foundation, Cahill family and Brian Williams. Additional generous supporters from the Mater Dei Prep community also made this project come to life.
The project included a new roof, windows, and custom carpet along with new electrical, plumbing, painting, paving and concrete work to upgrade the existing facility. The Mater Dei Prep student-athletes will also have the opportunity to take advantage of the new lockers, cleat area with deck and benches, four new rest room facilities, new “Mater Dei Way” walkway and an upgraded training room.
The Mater Dei Prep community’s generous support and volunteerism was a main factor in the success of the Frank Outwater Fieldhouse Renovation Project. Pat Whalen (Electric), Drew Eldridge (Plumbing & Heating), Albert Benavides (Mater Dei Prep Carpet), Mike Ryan (Roof), Jesse Ascolese (Painting), Dennis Shea (Sound System), and Liam Davis (Mater Dei Prep Awning) all donated their time and expertise; which was instrumental in making the Frank Outwater Fieldhouse become a reality.
“Coach Mangiero first came to me with this project back in April and I could see how passionate he was about doing something special for our student-athletes. He rallied the community behind a great cause and the response was incredible. All I can say is our Seraph Community is truly special and thriving,” said Donald Galante, President of Mater Dei Prep.
Monsignor Bulman Stadium also received upgrades that included a new scoreboard and sound system for game day. The Cahill family has been devoted supporters of Mater Dei Prep and graciously donated the state-of-the-art scoreboard. The scoreboard will be dedicated by the Mater Dei Prep community in honor of Dr. John Cahill, the first team doctor at Mater Dei Prep. The scoreboard dedication ceremony will take place on October 13, 2018 at the Mater Dei Prep football game vs Manasquan.
John Cahill MDP’73, President of the Mater Dei Prep Alumni Association, is grateful that the Mater Dei Prep community honored Frank Outwater for his tireless dedication and love of Mater Dei Prep. “Uncle Frank was always focused on giving Mater Dei students the tools they needed to succeed and most importantly his unwavering support. He knew students made the school and that our success was Mater Dei’s success. Good schools have good students and Frank always thought we had the best.”
