MDP Junior Attends the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Conference
Mater Dei Prep High School student Ashton Benavides represented MDP at the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Conference this summer at Kean University. The Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) mission is to inspire and prepare future young leaders for a life dedicated to leadership, service, and innovation. HOBY empowers young people to dream big, make an impact, and change the world.
Ashton was among those chosen to attend and expressed how life changing it was. Ashton said, “the experience was amazing. It helped me realize that I can make a difference and that our youth can make a difference. All it takes are small changes that can lead to bigger outcomes. I really enjoyed the experience and have made so many friends throughout the state that I would have never had the opportunity to meet. It was life changing and I hope that I can keep working with the organization and become a junior staff member.”
As many as 300 “ambassadors” from high schools across the state and country gather at their local HOBY State Leadership Seminar each year for a three-or four-day experience based on three leadership perspectives: Personal, Group, and Societal. The conference consisted of presentations from various local leaders and group activities, all while maintaining a focus on leadership.
