Message From Our Chairman

Dr. Simon Bosco
Chairman, Board of Trustees
Mater Dei Prep

Dear Friends of Mater Dei Prep,
“Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin.”  ― Mother Theresa
I am reaching out in the spirit of gratitude and appreciation for your continued support and commitment to our beloved School. Four years have passed since we embarked on the journey to revive and re-build Mater Dei Prep – a new Catholic Preparatory Independent High School. With pride in our past and faith in our future, a community of believers rallied together. Now, after completing the first full cycle, with the graduation of the Class of 2019, we better understand our challenges and remain steadfast in our mission and resolve. In partnership we will continue to build on our successes.
First and foremost, as the newly appointed Chairman of the Board of Trustees, I want to acknowledge the extraordinary vision and indefatigable efforts of founding Chairman, Randy MacDonald, MDP ’74. After 5-years of heroic leadership, Randy has decided to step down as Chairman, but will continue to generously and enthusiastically serve as a member of the Board of Trustees. If there is a single person responsible for the existence of Mater Dei Prep today, it is Randy MacDonald. We are forever in his debt and could never thank him enough for his sacrifice.
I have been a member of the Mater Dei Prep Board of Trustees for the past three years, serving as Chair of the Academic Committee, a member of the Executive Committee, and this past spring, as Interim President. Inspired by the exceptional collective energy of the community I remain dedicated to working closely with all of you as we continue to advance the Mission of Mater Dei Prep.
A collaborative and cooperative group of people aligned in pursuit of a common cause can accomplish remarkable things. Our capable leadership team has evolved together over the past three years in support of the Mater Dei Prep Cause - to provide a transformational educational experience to our diverse community of scholars and their families. Chief Operating Officer and Head of Institutional Advancement, Steven Andersen, has been an educator and administrator in independent school education and leadership for over 40 years. Our Chief Academic Officer and Principal, Debra Serafin, has over 35 years combined experience as a teacher, district level supervisor for curriculum and instruction, and secondary school administrator. We have added a full-time Business Administrator, Dawn Zic, and have hired an assistant for the office to ensure we are fiscally responsible and transparent, both operationally and financially. Indeed, we are positioned well for our future endeavors.
The Board of Trustees will be meeting the first weekend of August and immediately following we will present an overview of the State of the School for academic year 2019-2020. We will include more information on the administrative structure, clear lines of responsibility for communication, planned academic enhancements, and a list of new staff and faculty. We will also provide the current status of all programs, a financial report and development report for academic fiscal year 2019.
In the words of Robert Frost, “Two roads diverged in the wood, and We
Took the one less travelled by. And that has made all the difference.”
Our mission continues to be educating the whole student in the Catholic faith at the highest college preparatory standards, while still fostering individuality and growth. With your support, we will continue on the road less travelled and make a difference together.
God bless and Godspeed,
Dr. Simon Bosco, Chairman
