Mater Dei Prep Welcomes New Faculty and Staff for the 2021-2022 School Year


Amy ThomasVice President of Institutional Advancement

Mrs. Amy Thomas will be joining Mater Dei Prep as our Vice President of Institutional Advancement! She brings with her experience as Assistant Director of Development at 180 Turning Lives Around, Inc. and Assistant Director of Development at Tigger House Foundation. Most recently Mrs. Thomas held a position as Development Coordinator at Monmouth Day Care Center located in Red Bank, NJ. With many years of experience in development initiatives at different levels, Mrs. Thomas’ resume is going to be extremely helpful in furthering Mater Dei’s mission and goals for advancement needs. Mrs. Thomas expressed that “as a local and mother of 6th grade twins, I take a personal interest in the advancement of Mater Dei Prep. MDP has been a staple in the community for 60 years, being deeply rooted in faith, family and individualized learning.  I look forward to advancing the mission and expanding our reach into the community.” Welcome to the Seraph family, we look forward to accomplishing all your goals for Mater Dei Prep!

Hannah AmeenDirector of Admissions & Enrollment Management

We would like to welcome Ms. Hannah Ameen to the Mater Dei Prep community as our new Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management! She most recently served as the Freshman Admissions Counselor for Dominican College in Orangeburg, NY for two years. Prior to that she served as Coordinator of Development and School Advancement at Hilltop Country Day School in Sparta, NJ. Ms. Ameen earned both her Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies and her Master of Science in Organizational Leadership and Communication from Dominican College. Her admissions skills and love of Catholic education are already proving to be a big asset to Mater Dei! “I am looking forward to working with current and prospective families to maintain strong connections and build upon new ones for future Seraph students”, says Ms. Ameen. Judge Daniel D’AlessandroTeacher of Criminal Justice

We are honored to welcome Judge Daniel D’Alessandro to the Mater Dei Prep faculty as a teacher of Criminal Justice. Judge D’Alessandro graduated from St. Peter's University with an A.B. Economics and from Seton Hall University School of Law with a Juris Doctor degree. He also attended New York University Graduate School of Law and achieved a L.L.M. in Criminal Justice. Judge D’Alessandro brings 35 years of practiced law in a statewide trial and transactional practice. He served as a New Jersey Superior Court Judge in the Chancery Division of Family and the Law Division (Civil) from 2010-2019. He is the past president of the Hudson County Bar Association and the Boys & Girls Club of Hudson County. With an extensive list of certifications and experience, having Judge D’Alessandro as a mentor for our young Seraphs is an amazing opportunity. He stated that his goal is to “help my students think critically and independently as they prepare for life as future leaders and role models. I am excited to share ideas, teach and learn from the students at Mater Dei as we explore the complex historical, theoretical, practical and socio-economic challenges of criminal justice.” He has two sons who graduated from Mater Dei Prep in 1998 and 2000, both of which are 2019 Mater Dei Prep Hall of Fame Inductees. Gabrielle TanellaTeacher of Art

Ms. Gabrielle Tanella will be joining the Seraph family as our new Art Teacher! Ms. Tanella graduated from Montclair State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art with a focus on Studio Art. She has been creating and tending to local gardens that grow produce that supplement LunchBreak's client pantry for the last 5 years. Ms. Tanella’s main goal is to have her students create works of art that they are proud of while learning more about themselves in the process. She expressed that she is “excited to help my students fine tune their skills and explore different media through 2D Design, Fine Art, and Graphic Design”. With Digital Photojournalism, she is really looking forward to making a great yearbook with her class! “I plan on preserving the cultures and traditions of MDP, and welcome any students that want to be involved!” We look forward to seeing all that your students create in your classes, welcome!
