Mater Dei Prep Student Cathrine Volk (MDP ’24) Selected to Speak at The United Nations International Day of Peace Conference

Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on September 21st. The UN General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire. The theme at this year’s conference is “Recovering better for an equitable and sustainable world.” Mater Dei Prep student, Cathrine Volk (MDP ’24), was selected to speak at this prestigious United Nations Peace Conference.

Cathrine will be joined by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, UN Messengers of Peace Dr. Jane Goodall, YoYo Ma, Midori and prominent dignitaries, and global and student representatives at the September 17th, 2021 student observance.

Cathrine was selected from a global pool of students based on her role in addressing “Generation Z in Gender Equality and Leadership”. Cathrine was a featured speaker at a UN High-Level Political Forum panel this past summer. The Mater Dei Prep Global Institute played a prominent role at this prestigious panel sponsored by UN NGO Pathways To Peace. The Panel theme was “Healing Our World by Healing Ourselves: Lessons Learned through the Pandemic.” The Panel was moderated by George Anthony, Director of the Mater Dei Prep Global Leaders Institute and UN Primary Representative

Avon Mattison, President of UN NGO Pathways To Peace, stated “Pathways To Peace (PTP) is honored that Cathrine was selected as one of its Youth Representatives to the UN, and that she was selected to ask such an important question at the annual Youth Event for the International Day of Peace!” Students from The Mater Dei Prep Global Institute who will be attending the Conference via Zoom plan to use the International Day of Peace Conference as a launching point to this year’s projects.
