Thursday, March 18th brought together some of the most inspiring voices in Inter Religious Dialogue and its relationship in the message and the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Mohandas Gandhi. Students from the Mater Dei Prep Global Institute worked on the organizing committee and were instrumental in participating on this historic night. Emma DeBiase (MDP ‘23) served as Technology Consultant and student high school representative Abigail O'Sullivan (MDP ‘24) served as a Student Moderator. The evening opened with Emma DeBiase introducing the event Co-Chairs, Mr. Lindy Crescitelli and Ms. Shawn Landry. The conference began with Emmy and Oscar Award winning Civil Rights Speaker and Director, Dr. Von Rivers, who featured his short video "We Shall Overcome" featuring The INAMORI Art Project and student voices from Japan, Hong Kong, Europe, Latin America and The United States. The evening was moderated by SNV Co-Chairs Crescitelli and Landry. Panel speakers from the evening included, Pastor Kerwin Webb, who serves as Youth and Young Adult Pastor at Second Baptist Church of Asbury Park and also the President of the Greater Red Bank Area NAACP and Rabbi Marc Kline, an international revered speaker, who serves Monmouth Reform Temple with a passion for tradition and social justice and sits on the board of numerous Jewish, Islamic and Christian organizations. Other panel speakers represented a broad scope of the Inter Religious spectrum bringing depth and empathy in sharing the challenges and obstacles in bringing together a culture of Peace. Ray Anderson, a well-known New Jersey musician, performed a riveting rendition of Stevie Wonder's "Higher Ground".
George Anthony, Director of The MDP Global Institute and former Co-Chair to The Season for Non-Violence Conference, stated "I was so impressed by the level of involvement of our students in bringing together so many powerful voices moving forward the message of peace and sustainability. Congratulations to Lindy Crescitelli and Shawn Landry for bringing together such a dignified panel of speakers who immediately created a safe space where difficult conversations could take place. I look forward to March 25th when the second session will take place bringing together student voices with remaining giants in the field of Civil Rights including Angeline Butler, SNV Organizing Committee member, Professor at John Jay College and organizer of The North Carolina Sit In's documented in The Award-Winning Documentary ‘Eyes on The Prize’. Linda Lowery, who marched from Montgomery to Selma and at 15 was the youngest person on The George Pettus Bridge, will also present. Students from the Mater Dei Prep Global Institute of Emerging Leaders will present their video project ‘Our Voice's Matter’.”
