Christian Service and an altruistic mindset are two of Mater Dei Prep's hopes to instill in their students to bring to the greater community. The Mater Dei Prep family would like to formally recognize and express our gratitude and pride in student, Katie Barcheski (MDP ’22) for all of the time, hard work and dedication that she selflessly put into collecting over 970 items for Madonna House in Neptune, New Jersey. Katie managed to gather an assortment of items including men’s and women’s clothing, baby clothing, health essentials, furniture, school supplies, toys, bed linens, formula, blankets and safety accessories, just to name a few. Katie appealed to the generosity of her neighbors in South Amboy to meet her goal. She produced an organized and extensive list and categorized each item. The range of the donated goods is truly extraordinary, and all are extremely useful to the many families who rely on the Madonna House for aid. Katie took great care with each item and thoroughly examined them to make sure that each met a high-quality standard. She spent countless hours sorting them by category, folding them, and eventually packing them up to be brought to school to be officially donated.
Pictured are the many piles of clothing and other items she gathered to organize at her home. Her virtue of generosity is paired with the admirable attribute of gratitude, as Katie is currently engaged in handwriting individual thank you cards to each person who donated items to this important cause. Katie is representative of a model Mater Dei student; her values of empathy, integrity, generosity embody the genuine goodness of a Christian young lady. Mater Dei Prep offers its students the opportunities to participate in service projects like this essential item drive to benefit both the students and the community. It teaches students that they can make a difference for others in this world. It enables them to see that each individual can positively impact society. The experience provides many with hope and comfort for a better future; one filled with love, compassion and kindness. The drive was a great success, and we are extremely proud of our Seraphs for stepping up and working together for an amazing cause! A special thank you to Katie, Mrs. Cahill, Mr. Scotton and all who participated in this item drive!
