Mater Dei Prep Students Shine on The Planning Committee for the “Season for Non Violence Conference”

Mater Dei Prep students Emma DeBiase (’23), Abigail O'Sullivan (’24) and Tyler Malik-Ismail (’22) were asked to join a select group of Peace Builders that represent a committee for the internationally renowned "Season for Non-Violence Conference". Scheduled virtually for late March 2021, this conference honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi. Students were joined with notable peace builders, such as Ms. Angeline Butler, Professor at John Jay School of Criminal Justice, Civil Rights icon, organizer of The Nashville Sit In, and coordinator of the 1961 Freedom Rides. Students were also connected with Rabbi Marc Kline, a renowned Human Rights Advocate, Lawyer, and Inter Religious expert proficient in Theology, Ethics, Government and Healing. The committee is led by Mr. Lindy P. Crescitelli, a notable speaker, educator, and Civil Rights advocate. George S. Anthony, Director of The Mater Dei Prep Global Institute, has been a committee member for the past twenty years.

Tyler Malik-Ismail spoke about his experience. "I am honored to have a role in this committee and work with an International Team of peace builders. I am glad I get to voice my opinions on such a renowned platform while also representing my school.”

Another student, Abigail O'Sullivan remarked, "After the meeting, I was amazed that I would be asked to be included on such a panel of renowned individuals. I think it is extraordinary that Emma and I were asked to be part of this group and I look forward to contributing my perspectives as we plan forward.”

Emma DeBiase is in her third year working with Mr. Crescitelli and began her training at St. Marys Grade School. She is continuing with her involvement with UN NGO Pathways to Peace and The MDP Global Institute. She stated, "I look forward to contributing and assisting Mr. Crescitelli on a technical and global level in putting together a successful and memorable conference.”

George Anthony feels fortunate to be able to provide his students with such an impactful experience. "The Mater Dei Prep Global Institute has always played a role in utilizing the platforms this renowned conference provides in bringing our message of Hope and Peace to the forefront where student voices have the opportunity to create positive and sustainable change. I applaud the efforts of the planners in bringing our voices and expertise in building a better world where we all can contribute and benefit.”
