The overall goal of the Mater Dei Prep Student Services Department is to help students recognize their full potential — academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually. Students evaluate their strengths and weaknesses so they may successfully meet the challenges presented to them while achieving their goals.
Freshmen seminar is a course designed to promote a successful transition between middle school and high school. This course is designed to adapt students to high school requirements and expectations, and promote opportunities for involvement. This is an academically based course that will offer students instruction in study skills, organizational strategies, goal setting, and time management techniques. Students will work on high school planning, and explore post-secondary college and career options as time allows.
Programs for juniors and their parents will be held in the winter and spring to assist with the college planning process. All students at Mater Dei Prep have access to the Naviance Program which assists students with college and career tools.
Each student will be assigned a counselor for the school year. Conferences between the student and the counselor will be held periodically. A student or parent may request a conference at any time. Parents are encouraged to arrange appointments in advance by calling the Student Services Office at (732) 671-9182.
